Word Builders: From Words to Stories!
This class is designed for students who can read individual words but are ready to bridge the gap to true reading fluency. We take those foundational decoding skills and turn them into smooth, expressive reading. We believe that the best way to learn is through the power of play! Every session is packed with interactive games and high-energy challenges that turn “practice” into a major win for our students. By incorporating multi-sensory, hands-on activities that engage the eyes, ears, and hands, we make new reading skills truly “stick.” There are no boring drills here. Instead, we prioritize active participation to keep our readers moving, ensuring that every lesson is as physically engaging as it is educational!
What Your Child Will Learn:
- Reading Fluency: Moving beyond choppy “word-by-word” reading to reading smoothly, accurately, and with natural expression.
- Automatic Word Recognition: Strengthening phonics patterns within connected text to build “instant” recognition of common and complex words.
- The Power of Retelling: Practicing the transition from just “reading” to “understanding” by identifying main ideas and summarizing short stories.
- Text Navigation: Gaining confidence with leveled books and short texts to build the stamina needed for independent reading.
The Goal: To transform accurate decoding into effortless fluency, giving students the confidence to read independently and the tools to truly understand and enjoy every story.
