Chess I (Wednesdays 5:00 pm)
Chess: Strategy, Skill, and Fun!
Parents, did you know that chess is a powerful way to boost your child’s problem-solving abilities, concentration, and critical thinking skills? This class will be taught by two teachers and the class will be divided into two groups, beginners and advanced beginners.
New players will be introduced to the game in a fun, supportive environment designed for those who are new to chess or only know the basics. The instructor is a certified teacher with a master’s degree in education. Players who already know the basics will take their game to the next level by exploring beginner strategies and tactics in a fun and engaging environment with Coach Ray, our talented chess master.

- Chess Basics: Identify each piece and learn how they move.
- Game Fundamentals: Start with beginner-friendly games like “pawn wars” and progress to playing full matches.
- Beginner Tactics: Learn essential strategies like controlling the center, basic checkmates, and developing pieces effectively.
- Skill Development: Build memory, attention span, and confidence as they master new strategies.
- Critical Thinking: Hone skills in pattern recognition, algebraic thinking, and spatial reasoning.
